Employee workflows on Android

I built Padhaiwala HRMS to track employee attendance for Padhaiwala Innovative Education. It was also my fifth-semester final-year project. I designed the UI and developed the native Android application using Kotlin and Jetpack Compose.

The app separates employee tasks from administrative record handling. Firebase Authentication supports employee login and its supported password reset/change workflow.

Attendance starts with a photograph

Marking attendance requires a captured selfie or photo through the Android camera flow. Attendance actions record the current timestamp and check-in/check-out information.

The image follows a specific storage path:

1. Capture the attendance photo.
2. Compress the image.
3. Encode it as Base64.
4. Store it in Cloud Firestore with the attendance information.

The stored image is part of the attendance data. The photograph allows the workplace or background to be reviewed visually; it does not provide GPS or geolocation verification.

Reporting and record handling

Employees can submit daily reports and request leave or work from home. Report fields include notes, calls, admissions, talk time, and registrations.

Administrators can view attendance records, attendance/leave/work-from-home requests, and daily reports. Administrative functionality also includes deleting records and exporting them as CSV.

Approval/rejection workflows and notifications were proposed ideas and were not part of the implemented app.

Building within development constraints

Android Studio ran slowly on my lower-end laptop, making development more difficult. That constraint was part of the development and learning experience while building the app's interface, camera flow, authentication, and Firestore-backed records.
